What is the best benchmark when choosing a product to promote?

I have started accounts with Clickbank (and Shareasale). Now, I am considering what exact products I should promote. My only concern is quality of products. I don't want to put this much time into developing quality content, promote my site, and then lose credibility because the ebook, service, or product that my subscriber purchased was inferior. There may be no real answer to this question other than trying the product myself, but I don't have the resources to try every product that I promote.

Any advice posted will be much appreciated!

Keith

Most products from a successful merchant that are a "need" product (people will by them even when the economy is tough), rather than a "want" product, can get you started. That's where I started as an affiliate a decade ago - chain hotel reservations in a "resort" town and a "convention" city. Then we branched out to other products that people need - and ended up becoming a merchant for one of them. :D

Hi Scott Keith,
What kind of site do you have? I would look at reviews of products and see what is best based on the industry you are in.

Hope that helps somewhat

@ Keith,
Hey mate, I tend to go for the products with an average gravity of around 100 or so. I also purchase the product through my own affiliate link thus saving me 75% of the cost. If the product is really bad I will request a refund, but if it is good, I will promote it.

Cheers,
Thomas Wallace

I’m always looking out for new and old methods to improve my online business. Even more so recently when I was losing money trying to do too much of the wrong thing. But getting back on track now and with some of the info here, it will help.
